Are you a skilled Business Intelligence Developer? Do you have what it takes to play a key role in positioning our organization for future growth?

Reporting to the Director of Patient Medical Home, and working collaboratively with respective stakeholders, the Business Intelligence (BI) Developer will work closely with the measurement and analytics team to provide sustained data solutions. As the ideal candidate, you will communicate effectively with team members and understand data analysis, data analytics, reporting, dashboarding, and data modeling. 



Projects: As the central point person for our data solutions, you will be responsible for fully understanding the business goals of each project assigned. You will work with the team to support translating measurement indicator requirements to calculation rules and technical specifications for a target dataset. This will include full tests and quality assurance on all new jobs, as well as enhancements to existing jobs to ensure seamless integration with the production environment. The ideal candidate will be able to self-manage a workstream or project, defining needed work and executing end to end to deliver a solution. You will work collaboratively with the subject matter experts to define rules to translate from a defined source to the target set of data.

Development and design: Data is critical to our business. You will be expected to fully understand the overall data structure of source systems and interaction of data tables in order to accurately develop reports and dashboards. You will be responsible for the design and writing of automated SQL Jobs/Scripts to perform a variety of functions (both sustained and ad hoc). You will create datasets with the appropriate use of Tableau Prep and understand the data by working with it to write complex SQL queries with multiple joins to validate and automate data flows. You will support the visualization development by designing and developing dynamic visualizations and reporting that drive decision-making and business strategy using Tableau. To further support the work, you will help gather requirements and develop report/dashboard specification documents, while also suggesting architectural improvements for the data warehouse that will have immediate impact on performance and function.

Reporting and communication:  You will ensure accuracy and the verifiability of the data being reported for business use. You will research and propose changes to database(s) to help support the future improvements on our databases are providing accurate and efficient reporting. You will communicate and work with end users to understand their conceptual needs to projection. You have a strong ability to articulate architecture proposals. In collaboration with the team you will create standards and procedures that support the management of the data environment.


Education and experience: You have a minimum of five years of experience as a BI Developer. A minimum of two years of experience in healthcare industry is considered an asset. You will have a post-secondary diploma or degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field.

Technical: Proficiency in SQL, at least one BI tool (e.g., Tableau, QlikView, Power BI), at least one ETL tool (e.g., Tableau Prep, Alteryx) and Microsoft Office Suite.

Organization skills: The Calgary West Central Primary Care Network is a fast-paced, ever-changing environment that depends on your organizational and multitasking skills. You are a Self-starter, efficient, organized and proven ability to produce top quality work in a mid-level environment. You have the ability manage and prioritize multiple tasks; strong documentation and project management.

Communication skills and customer relationship skills: You have strong communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills with people at all levels. You have excellent followup and problem-solving skills, with ability to make intuitive decisions. Discretion and ability to handle sensitive information and material appropriately.

Attention to detail: Precision, accuracy, and high attention to detail in all aspects of work.

Team-oriented: Ability to work effectively independently as well as with a team.

Additional Requirements

Background Check: A clear Criminal Background check is required to start. If you have resided outside Calgary in the past 12 months, you will need to contact the local police or RCMP detachment in your previous residential municipality to be able to obtain a full report.
