Data Warehouse Developer and Support Analyst (Job ID: 202006-05)

Working collaboratively with respective stakeholders and the Patient Medical Home team and reporting to the Director of Patient Medical Home (DPMH), you are responsible for supporting the design and implementation of Calgary West Central Primary Care Network (CWC PCN) data warehouse. This data warehouse includes information for measuring patient outcomes and operational data for organizational reporting.



Under the supervision and support of the DPMH, the incumbent will be involved in all aspects of data warehouse development.

  • Take direction from the DPMH and analytic team members to design and develop data warehouse solutions.
  • Work with an integrated clinical and improvement team to maintain the organizational data warehouse to support operational reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with the Patient Medical Home team to design, develop and maintain data to support quality improvement and performance measurement at multiple levels (physician, clinic, and PCN) related to the implementation of the patient medical homes (e.g. prepare data models).
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external IT providers to implement a central data warehouse to support operations and patient medical home requirements.
  • Ensure that all organizational data is managed according to privacy FOIP and HIA requirements.
  • Monitor reliability and availability of all data and ensure work is completed according to benchmark standards.
  • Integrate and collaborate with the Measurement, Improvement and Evaluation team to meet the organization’s improvement projects and patient medical home needs.
  • Develop a quality assurance/quality control process for maintaining high-quality data.
  • Plan and implement standards, define/code conformed global and reusable objects, performs complex database design, data modeling EDW, and programming and streamline the systems.
  • Contribute to data analysis, designs and developments of new and ongoing business intelligence (BI) projects involving complex EDW structures or on OLTP systems.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams to understand and apply changes/modifications impacting the data warehouse.
  • Conduct and participate in code walk-throughs and document technical design.
  • Monitors ETL processes, system audits, dashboard reporting and presentation layer functioning and performance.
  • Proactively resolves issues as found as related to the management of the data warehouse (including pulling data into the warehouse and flowing data out to visualization software).
  • Supports the performance of the data warehouse systems.
  • Follow the release cycles and implement on time delivery of bug fixes, change requests and enhancements.
  • Troubleshoot and solves technical problems.
  • Document procedures, processes and standards (e.g. data dictionary) for the data warehouse.
  • Lead from within the role by continuing to improve processes and identify opportunities for innovation.
  • Collaborate with the team to build efficient processes for data visualizations with Tableau software.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.


Education: A bachelor’s degree with formal training in information systems, computer science, business intelligence, health sciences, or health research. Equivalencies of education and/or experience may also be considered.

Knowledge: Data analytics, database management, quality improvement, data warehouse tools and database systems (e.g. Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2; Snowflake).

Experience: Three (3) years’ experience leading data warehouse development; extracting, transforming and loading (ETL); and working with database architecture and business intelligence tools. Three (3) years’ experience with data analytics and visualization. Experience with project management would be an asset.

Technical skills: Experience with computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Tableau data visualization software and IBM DB2 required. Experience with electronic medical records (EMRs) would be an asset.

Organization and attention to detail: Precision, accuracy, and high attention to detail in all aspects of work. Strong ability to self-motivate, multi-task and prioritize effectively. Strong organizational skills and proven ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Problem-solving skills: Ability to think critically and evaluate facts to problem-solve in all aspects of work. Excellent initiative and follow-through. Ability to work in a fluid environment.

Team-oriented: Very comfortable working in a team environment incorporating group problem solving; shares information and responsibility; is not territorial. Strong relationship building skills, both internally and externally.

Communications and customer relations skills: Outgoing, persistent and energetic. Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to handle requests and complaints in a professional, non-confrontational manner. Excellent follow-up and problem-solving skills, with ability to make intuitive decisions.
