We are seeking an outstanding Web Developer for a casual role with our organization. Reporting to the Director of Member Services & Engagement, the Web Developer is responsible for developing and/or designing websites for Calgary West Central Primary Care Network (CWC PCN). You will be collaborating with the communications team and other key CWC PCN stakeholders to code, develop and maintain our digital and web properties.

To support your success in this role, which includes both back-end and front-end web development tasks, you will require strong skills in JavaScript, jQuery HTML, CSS, WordPress, AWS or Azure, SQL, NoSQL, Node.JS, JSON, API, and basic graphic design/layout skills.

 

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for developing a new public-facing website hosted on WordPress, supporting the development of features on internal web properties, as well migrating and archiving existing content. You will:

  • Meet with key stakeholders to gather requirements and collaborate with project teams to ensure web solutions meet the needs/requirements
  • Build and maintain secure web properties and software applications
  • Design for accessibility (meet or exceed AA requirements) and ensure web properties are responsive (mobile-first)
  • Write well-designed, testable and efficient code using software development best practices
  • Understand the user journey and experience to develop web property navigation, layout and infrastructure
  • Configure the CWC PCN digital ecosystem, connecting web properties with communications channels and measurement / evaluation tools
  • Optimize CWC PCN's web presence through both search and SEO strategies
  • Collaborate with communications team to align with brand requirements
  • Work closely with graphic designers to request and gather digital assets (photos and graphics)
  • Ensure Content Management System (CMS) is a visual editor (such as WP Bakery)
  • Manage and configure plug-ins, as required
  • Set up and monitor spam filters and site security
  • Confer with teams to resolve conflicts, prioritize needs, develop content criteria or choose solutions
  • Perform website updates as needed, in collaboration with the communications team
  • Develop or validate test routines and schedules to ensure that test cases mimic external interfaces and address all browser and device types
  • Create and maintain version control, logs and software documentation
  • Back up files from websites to local directories for recovery
  • Identify problems uncovered by feedback and testing, and correct or refer problems to appropriate personnel for correction
  • Monitor web traffic and report on issues and trends to support content optimization
  • Evaluate code to ensure that it meets industry standards and is valid, properly structured, and compatible with browsers, devices, and operating systems

 

Qualifications

Education: You have a bachelor’s degree in web development, IT, or a related field. In addition, you have five years of relevant experience. You have established experience and knowledge in programming applications with a minimum of five years’ experience with web applications, website redesign, and website UX/UI optimization. You are proficient in Microsoft Office, JavaScript, jQuery HTML, CSS, WordPress, AWS or Azure, SQL, NoSQL, Node.JS, JSON, API, C++, and basic graphic design/layout skills. Experience with SSO & API integration with leading Identity and Access Management solutions. Experience with writing code that scales and adapts to mobile devices (i.e., mobile responsive codes).

Organizational skills: You can multi-task and prioritize and have strong organizational skills. Your proven ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a highly challenging environment is your superpower.

Communication skills: You have strong communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills and can handle requests and complaints in a professional, non-confrontational manner. You have excellent follow-up and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make intuitive decisions. You have discretion and can handle sensitive information and material appropriately. You have demonstrated the ability to develop and express ideas and processes with a high degree of independent judgement.

Attention to detail: Precision, accuracy, and high attention to detail in all aspects of work.

Team-oriented: Ability to work effectively independently as well as with a team.

Background check: a clear Criminal Background check is required to start. If you have resided outside Calgary in the past 12 months, you will need to contact the local police or RCMP detachment in your previous residential municipality to be able to obtain a full report.
